Troubleshooting Guide

Steps Not Showing?

Having trouble with steps not appearing in Belly? Follow these steps in order to fix the most common issues.

Step 1

Check Health Permissions

First, let's make sure Belly has permission to read your step data from Apple Health. Without this permission, your steps will always show as 0.

Once you've verified permissions are enabled, try opening Belly again. If steps still don't appear, continue to the next step.

Step 2

Force Close and Reopen Belly

Due to Apple Watch system limitations, there can sometimes be a delay when fetching step data. Force closing and reopening Belly will refresh the connection to HealthKit and fetch the latest step count.

How to force close Belly:

  1. Double press the Digital Crown to open the app switcher
  2. Find Belly in the list of recent apps
  3. Swipe left on Belly
  4. Tap the red X to close it
  5. Reopen Belly from your app list

Try this multiple times. It may take a few attempts for Apple Watch to refresh the data.

Why does this happen with Belly but not other apps? Unlike most apps that sync data from your iPhone, Belly is a standalone Apple Watch app that works independently without a phone. This means it relies entirely on the Watch's health data capabilities, which can sometimes have sync delays.

If force closing doesn't work after several attempts, try the next step.

Step 3

Restart Your Apple Watch

If force closing didn't help, a full restart of your Apple Watch might help to clear any stuck processes and refresh all system connections, including HealthKit.

How to restart your Apple Watch:

  1. Press and hold the Side Button until you see the power options
  2. Tap Power Off and slide to confirm
  3. Wait a few seconds
  4. Press and hold the Side Button to turn the watch back on
  5. Once restarted, open Belly to check your steps
