"Free" on the App Store often means free to download. Every game below is free to install and has a real watch app, and we checked each listing in October 2026 for in-app purchases and subscriptions. Eight of them list none at all.

The 12 games
1. Belly
A pixel cat that lives on your watch. You feed it, play with it and dress it up, and your steps from Apple Health keep it happy. It runs on the watch alone, with no iPhone needed and no ads, and its complications keep the cat on your watch face.
The catch: It is a slow, daily game, not something you finish in one sitting.
2. Chess by Staple Games
Chess against an AI with six difficulty levels, pass-and-play with a friend, online games through Game Center, or local play over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi with no internet. The developer says it has no subscriptions and no ads.
The catch: It is new, with only a handful of ratings so far.
3. Klondike Solitaire - Daily
Classic Klondike with a new daily challenge hand and a global leaderboard. You can play 1-card draw at a relaxed pace or 3-card Vegas draw for higher scores. Updated in October 2026.
The catch: Cards are small on the smaller watch sizes; it is easier on a 46mm or Ultra.
4. 3 Puzzle Games Watch & Phone
Three puzzle types in one app: sudoku, connect-the-dots and slide-the-block escape puzzles, with hundreds of levels between them.
The catch: Sudoku on a watch screen takes careful tapping.
5. Billiard Wear
Top-down pool built for the watch. Turn the Digital Crown to aim, tap to shoot, and pot every ball except the black and white. Updated in September 2026.
The catch: Aiming with the crown takes a few games to get used to.
6. Bird Watch Game
Tap to stack ice blocks, build up speed and launch your bird into the air, without bumping into walls. Easy to start, hard to master.
The catch: It is a short-session score chaser with little variety.
7. Watch Soccer: Dribble King
Dribble past defenders and score. Runs are short, which suits a watch. Updated in August 2026.
The catch: One idea, done well; not much beyond it.
8. Tap To Dash
Tap to dash and avoid everything in your way, then compare scores with friends or the world.
The catch: Its last update was in December 2025.
9. Glass 2048
The 2048 number-merge puzzle with a glassy look, smooth animations and lots of customisation. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV, with Game Center leaderboards.
The catch: Still a small app with few ratings.
10. 2048 :)
The original-style 2048: swipe to slide tiles and merge matching numbers. It adds a multiplayer mode through Game Center.
The catch: The App Store lists in-app purchases.
11. Games for Watch
A growing collection of quick mini-games for waiting in line or a short break, all in one app. Updated in September 2026.
The catch: Some of the collection sits behind in-app purchases.
12. Trivia Crack
The well-known quiz game, with a watch app for quick rounds. It is free to play and updated regularly.
The catch: The App Store lists monthly subscriptions, so the free version is not the whole game.
Games with no purchases at all
If you want nothing to buy later, these list no in-app purchases on the App Store: Chess by Staple Games, Klondike Solitaire - Daily, 3 Puzzle Games Watch & Phone, Billiard Wear, Bird Watch Game, Watch Soccer: Dribble King, Tap To Dash, Glass 2048. We could not check from the listings whether any of them show ads.
How we checked
Each game is free to download on the US App Store and has a watch app, confirmed on its listing in October 2026, along with what the listing says about in-app purchases and subscriptions. We left out games that cost money upfront, apps that are not games, and games whose watch version only controls your phone. Listings change, so check before you install.
